du Achieves International Recognition at MENA Cristal Awards

du, the UAE’s new telecom operator, has won the MENA Cristal Award for the company’s 2007 brand launch campaign based on the Water ad theme. The MENA Cristal Festival is a Middle East version of the Méribel Ad Festival, held yearly in the French Alps targeting European countries.

Hala Badri, du’s Vice President of Corporate Communications said: “It is a very proud moment for du and we are happy to have won the MENA Cristal Award for our corporate brand campaign. du chose water as an analogy to express the telecom’s brand attributes which clearly appealed to people's hearts and minds.”

The MENA Cristal Awards are a platform for diverse market leaders to promote their corporate communication activities that aim to promote and strengthen the image of companies, government bodies, institutions and associations.

du had previously won the ‘Best Brand’ at the Telecoms World Awards Middle East 2007 for highly innovative branding and outstanding brand creativity, pitting itself against telecom majors Etisalat, Zain, 2Connect and Saudi Telecom. In addition, the company won the silver award for the most creative website design in the ICT category at the UAE Web Awards 2007.

Extreme TV, also honoured du for its WoW recharge card TV advertising, recognising the campaign as the best aired commercial among 50 international mobile telecom providers in the world.

Other first year accolades include being the runner up in the New Brand Launch category at the GMR Effectiveness in Marketing Awards 2007, a remarkable achievement for du in the first month of its operations in February 2007.

du, the new telecommunications company in the UAE, launched mobile telecommunication services on 11 February 2007 across the UAE in addition to internet and pay TV services in some of the free zones of Dubai. Call Select, the first of du's nationwide Fixed line services for voice telephony, was launched in July 2007.

du’s retail network, currently numbering 16 du shops located in strategic locations across all emirates, was launched on 25 February 2007, supporting the delivery of du services to customers.

du is 40 percent owned by the UAE Federal Government, 20 percent by Mubadala Development Company, 20 percent by TECOM Investments and 20 percent by public shareholders. It is listed on the Dubai Financial Market (DFM) and trades under the name du.
