NMC, TECOM signs MoU on issuing of permit

The National Media Council (NMC) and the Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone (TECOM) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to regulate and issue media license in the Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone.
Based on the MoU, TECOM authority would seek and get the approval of the NMC before issuing permit for any radio broadcast or TV telecast, as well as for publishing and printing of any newsprint, books and related materials from the Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone.
NMC Director General, Ibrahim Al-Abed signed the MoU for his side, while his TECOM counterpart, Ahmed bin Bayyat, also signed for his outfit. TECOM Chief Executive, Dr. Amina Al Rostmani, attended the signing ceremony.
The two sides affirmed their commitment to facilitate work and to surmount any difficulty that hinders work at the Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone.
The MoU is in implementation of Cabinet resolution for the reorganising of issuing of media licenses in the country in a way that would serve the UAE's interest. It is also to ensure that media practices are done according to laid down rules and regulations and the UAE's internal and foreign policies.

Website of the Ministry of Social Affairs

Maryam Mohammed Khalfan Al Roumi, Minister of Social Affairs will inaugurate the web site of the Ministry established to serve as a means of contact and communication between the Ministry of Social Affairs and the public .The web site will include presentation of social development programs and social aid programs . In addition to that the visitors of this site can find laws and regulations concerning social insurance as well as the laws of the handicapped, non-benefit associations ,cooperative societies and nurseries. Virgin Radio set to launch in Dubai

Dubai's Arab Media Group has signed a preliminary deal with Virgin Radio to launch the station in Dubai."We've signed a memorandum of understanding with Virgin," AMG boss Abdullatif Al Sayegh told ArabianBusiness.com."We haven't finalised the deal but it should be done over the next few weeks. It's looking very positive. We're about to talk about financials and figures."
"I don't think any radio stations in the UAE or Arab world compete with the Virgin brand," he added. "Virgin is going to bring a lot of quality to radio."The deal is thought to have been three or four months in the making. The new station could fall under AMG's Arabian Radio Network, which currently operates eight stations, according to the AMG website.Al Sayegh says that the company is "not quite sure" whether Virgin Radio would replace one of the existing stations or be an addition to them.Virgin radio started in the UK in the 1990s and in 2001 established Virgin Radio Asia. It runs stations in Bangkok, Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru (formerly Bangalore), and plans to shortly launch in Kolkata."Virgin Radio International is now exploring opportunities in Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Europe and expects to launch many more stations over the coming years," says a statement on its website. Dubai Media City Hosts Sixth Anniversary Celebrations

Dubai Media City marked its sixth anniversary on 2 February, hosting a fun filled family event for its business partners, staff and families. The day-long event offered action packed entertainment, including camel and pony rides, face painting, sand art, magic shows, street performers, and extreme sport. Also a variety of cuisine from different countries was on offer among other activities that were organised in coordination with Dubai Shopping Festival.Raffle draws were held at regular intervals throughout the day, awarding exciting prizes including vouchers for a weekend stay for two at a luxury hotel, dinner for two, electronic products, spa treatment, helicopter and safari rides.
