Dubai Carnivals, featuring performers from around the globe, is slated to be one of the attractions when Dubai Shopping Festival 2008 begins on January 24.
Involving up to 300 different performers, Dubai Carnivals will be held throughout DSF until February 24.
While 150 performers will feature in different locations during weekdays, the DSF weekends will witness a massive 300 performers get together in one place.
Based on the idea of floats, Dubai Carnivals will feature four platforms, each with a different theme.
The themes include Russian, Arabic, Japanese, and Chinese.
Different locations in Dubai like the Muraggabat Street, Al Seef Street, Creek Park, the Dubai Marina, Uptown Mirdiff, Arabian Ranches, Global Village, and even Dubai Media City, Dubai Internet City, and Knowledge Village will play host to the Carnivals thus making it possible for visitors anywhere in Dubai to view them.
Yousif Mubarak, DSF Events, Operations, and Logistics Director, said, "Following the success of the Carnival in the last edition of DSF during 2006-2007, the 2008 Dubai Carnivals are being organised on a larger scale this year.
"With 300 performers, four themed platforms, and a host of other attractions, the event epitomises the cultural festivity during every DSF edition.
"Dubai Carnivals is one of our endeavours to gather people of different nationalities for a celebration of cultures."
Performers for the Carnival will include the famed Tanourah dancers, African artists, Indian folk groups, stilt walkers, clown, jugglers, and a host of Turkish, Serbian, and Senegalese entertainers.
The platforms will concentrate on the characteristic elements of each theme.
The Arabic theme will include displays like flying carpets, Aladdin, camels, stilt riders, and sand dunes. The Russian platform will emulate the design of old Russia and include performers of Russian dances and also feature warriors.
The Chinese platform will be characterised by Chinese lanterns, traditional girls with umbrellas, and Chinese warriors.
The Japanese platform will exhibit traditional Japanese flowers and display white cranes symbolising peace and harmony. Source
