Repton opens its doors to 340 students in Dubai

A reputed British school has opened is first overseas boarding partner school in Dubai.
Repton Dubai, a partner of the famed Repton UK, currently celebrating its 450th anniversary, opened its doors to 340 students ages 3-11, including 15 per cent UAE pupils this academic year. Senior school will start next September.

With the common perception among parents in the UAE that private education is becoming a merely "money-making business", with school fees soaring up to 75 and 100 per cent in the past few years, Robert Holroyd, Headmaster of Repton UK, and David Cook, Headmaster of Repton Dubai, explained the standards and facilities the school will offer in return for its Dh43,000 fee for nursery pupils and up to Dh54,000 for year 6 excluding boarding.
The extensive site of the school (130,200 square metres or 35 acres, with plans for future expansion) is in the Nad Al Sheba district close to the commercial and residential part of the city. It has been approved by both Dubai Land and the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which has chosen Repton Dubai as the flagship of its Dubai Schools programme.
Network
The planning of the project took around four years.
"Dubai has a very prestigious reputation as not only the most dynamic commercial centre in the world, which is something that I wanted our students to taste when they came out here, but also for us a very extensive network of old Reptonians who live and work here," said Holroyd.
According to David Cook, at the moment the school reflects the composition of Dubai since it is currently only an all-day school for junior students. "Senior school opens next year, the boarding will come in the course of the following year and that will change the demographics of the school. This will attract people from the region, Europe and India," he said.
When asked who is targeted to attend Repton Dubai with fees reaching Dh43,000 for nursery and Dh54,000 for year 6, Cook said, "I think the provision that we have is an all-day provision and the sort of academic standards we are offering if we compare them with the fees say in the UK, then they are extremely competitive."
Facilities: Massive library
There are more than 40 classrooms, alongside specialist rooms and laboratories for Arabic Studies, Science, Art, Music, Information Technology and Design Technology. The library is spread over two floors.
It has a double-storey cafeteria. The sports facilities include two indoor sports halls, four covered tennis courts, the indoor swimming pool and a main astroturf football/hockey pitch, surrounded by the all-weather 400-metre six-lane running track.
The Arts and Media Centre at the school has a 800-seat auditorium. The school will also have an ice-skating rink along with a horse-riding track. Source
