Nakheel invites companies to bid by 20 April for the reclamation contract on the Port Rashid redevelopment
The works involve the dredging and reclamation of 38 million cubic metres of material that will be used to create a man-made island that will resemble a desert gazelle or oryx when viewed above. The land is expected to provide housing for 200,000.
The prospective bidders include Van Oord, Royal Boskalis Westminster, both of the Netherlands; Jan De Nul, Dredging International, both Belgium-based; Toa Corporation, Penta-Ocean Construction, both of Japan; US-based Great Lake Dredge & Dock; the local National Marine Dredging Company; and China Harbour Engineering Company.
Port Rashid will continue to operate as the main port in Dubai for tourist and cruise vessels and this will be integral to the redevelopment.
The general and non-containerised cargo handling operations are being transferred to Jebel Ali. (MEED)
