Boston University building due for completion in 2011
His Excellency Mohammad Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Executive Chairman of Dubai Holding, broke ground for the construction of the new Boston University building as part of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Academic Medical Centre at Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC), a member of Tatweer.
The ceremony was conducted in the presence of Joseph Mercurio, Executive Vice President of Boston University, and Jeffrey Hutter, Interim Dean of Goldman School of Dental Medicine Boston University.
This is the first time in the history of Boston University that the world class academic institution has expanded beyond its geographical borders in the US.
Al Gergawi, said: "As a world renowned academic institution, Boston University's move to the emirate signals a crucial step forward for the healthcare and educational sectors in the region. It also complements the objectives of Dubai Strategic Plan 2015 as outlined by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai." Joseph Mercurio, Executive Vice President of Boston University, said: "Boston University is proud to move into the region. We are committed to raising healthcare standards that complement our status as one of the world?s oldest leading private research and teaching institutions." The Boston University building at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Academic Medical Centre is due for completion in 2011, and will offer a range of graduate and postgraduate programs in dentistry and allied health sciences.
