Central Bank Governor

Sultan bin Nasser Al Suweidi says he plans to serve another four-year term as UAE central bank governor, denying reports that he may be forced to step down from the post.

"I intend to stay in my position, and I have no intention of stepping down," Al Suweidi said. "It is total speculation, based on rumours."

Al Suweidi may step down following pressure to revalue the dirham, to be replaced by Chairman of Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank Saeed Mubarak Al Hajeri, Dow Jones reported on December 11, citing a person familiar with the matter.

The UAE cabinet will decide whether he should retain the post for a fifth time later this month, Al Suweidi said yesterday.
