Sponsorship transfer over MoL counter
Workers can get exemption from the one-year condition for transferring sponsorships over the counter at the Ministry of Labour, Khalil Khoury, Director of the MoL Work Permits Department, stated yesterday.
According to the labour law, every worker has to complete at least one year with his/her sponsor as a condition before shifting to another employer.
Khoury was speaking during the Open Day at the MoL in Abu Dhabi office after he met almost 40 applicants who came to find solutions to their problems. The applications were from owners of companies requesting waiver of fines and workers who wanted to transfer sponsorships.
In the past, workers had to get the approval of the assistant undersecretary of the MoL for the exemption. The new amendment will make it easier for them as they should only furnish documents such as visa cancellation, non-objection certificate (NOC) from the current sponsor and a letter from the new company the worker wants to join to complete the formalities.
"Now, if the worker does not complete one year with his/her sponsor, the person can get the approval for exemption by paying Dh3,000 in fees in addition to Dh 500 for each month that is remaining to complete the period," added Khoury. Source
