Big 5 set to boost German, Italian business with UAE
Italy and Germany are expecting a significant growth in their respective bilateral trade with the UAE especially in the construction and related industries with the help of a trade show next week.
Europe's largest economy, Germany, has retained its position from the previous years as the biggest national group participating in The Big 5 Show, to be held on November 25-29, at Dubai International Exhibition Centre.
Dubai-based Italian Trade Commissioner Ferdinando Fiore said Italian companies are focusing on the UAE as a commercial hub as well as to "explore new dimension of business and investment opportunities."
Italy's exports to the UAE reached Dh11.3 billion for the first six months of this year, up 41.2 per cent from a year ago. The UAE imported Dh17.74 billion worth of goods from Italy in 2006, an increase of 28.3 per cent from the previous year.
Oliver Parche, deputy delegate at the German Industry and Commerce, in Dubai, said that Germany's exports to the Gulf region rose by 17 per cent to Dh70 billion last year, 25 per cent or Dh16 billion of which accounted for construction machinery.
He said these figures are not surprising considering that the six members of the Gulf Cooperation Council especially the UAE have become important to Germany not only as importers but as locations for many German industries as well.
"Another reason is the ongoing boom in construction business and impressive infrastructure projects," he stressed in a Press conference.
The two European countries will also have institutional booths at the exhibition that would provide participating companies from the respective nation with vital information on how to penetrate the UAE and the whole Middle East market.
He said the Italian Trade Commission Dubai, which covers the UAE, Oman and Qatar, is tasked to promote bilateral trade and provides assistance and consultancy services to both Italian and local companies to further trade and investment relations.
Helal Al Marri, director-general of Dubai World Trade Centre, and other show officials said at least 2,800 exhibitors from 52 countries will participate in the exhibition, which expects over 40,000 visitors.
In a statement, the show organiser said that Big 5 PMV, Dubai's largest brand-new event, will be held alongside The Big 5 Show, which is on its 28th year.
It added that the new event will be at Airport Expo Dubai and serve as a platform for business-to-business (B2B) meetings between plant, machinery, construction vehicles and equipment suppliers.
This specialised exhibition is in partnership with dmg World Media, through Streamline Marketing Group.
"The Big 5 is a major event covering every aspect of construction," said Bernard Walsh, managing director of dmg. "However, the missing sector in the past was the plant, machinery and vehicles...because of the lack of space." Source
