Dubai bourse extends gains
Shares in Dubai continued to gain yesterday, rising 0.51 per cent to close at 4,969.82 while Abu Dhabi's main index retreated with a drop of 0.04 per cent to 4,269.4.
Kuwait's Public Warehousing Co, the region's leading global logistics and warehousing firm, topped the Dubai Financial Market (DFM) General Index with a jump of 15 per cent to Dh26.95.
Deyaar Development was also a big gainer with an advance of 5.5 per cent to Dh2.12, followed by Dubai Islamic Insurance with an increase of five per cent to Dh29.80. With its volume of shares valued at Dh1.5 billion, Deyaar was DFM's trading topper.
The volume of shares on DFM, which had 17 listed companies advancing and eight declining, reached 1.57 billion and valued at Dh4.2 billion.
The banking sector rose 1.4 per cent to 3,031.69 while the investment sector dropped 1.33 per cent to 6,748.90 and the telecommunications sector slumped 0.4 per cent to 822.01.
UAE-based Shuaa Capital, a leading regional investment banking institution, was the biggest loser with a fall of 6.1 per cent to close at Dh6.29 from an opening price of Dh6.70. Source
