Curtain to rise on the First Gulf Cultural Festival on Sunday
The first Gulf Cultural Festival will kick off on Sunday at Qanat Al Qasba in Sharjah under the patronage of H.H. Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.
The festival organised by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development is expected to add a new dimension to the cultural activities in the country inspiring all those who love fine arts and literature. It is the first time in the region such a major cultural event takes place bringing the Gulf artists and literary men together under one roof.
An array of poets, literary men and artists will enliven the host of events during the week-long event. The Festival is expected to give UAE a pioneering role in organizing such events on the regional level. It will also substantially enhance the joint cultural activities among the Gulf countries.
Speaking at a press conference in Dubai, the Under Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development Bilal Al Badour said that a variety of cultural events like thinkers' Forum, poetry evenings, presentation of short stories and theatrical items have been planned.
Al Bador said that the event comes in response to a request from UAE to the other countries in GCC to bring all the talents in the region into one place creating an opportunity for them to share their respective creations. He also noted that all the countries responded positively due to the keenness of the rulers and ministers of those countries to give all the possible impetus to the cultural march in the region.
Al Badour pointed out that Qanat-el-Qasba has been declared as the permanent venue for the event in the future.
During the festival there will be sufficient sessions for folklore events, and a number of cultural personalities will be honoured. Source
