No extension of the three-month amnesty : Khaili

The government has no intention to extend the three month amnesty announced by the federal cabinet in June to allow all foreign nationals present illegally in the country with to regularize their situation according to the law, or to leave the country, without penalty, a senior immigration official affirmed.
''The three-month grace period given by the cabinet to violators to legalize their status is quite enough and there is no justification to extend it further according to the current situation, Director General of Naturalization and Residency at Interior Ministry Brigadier Mohammed Salim Al Khaili, emphasized yesterday following a meeting of federal directors general of naturalization and residency departments which he chaired.

He appealed to violators to quickly finalize their transitions regarding their departure or correction of their status, warning that stiff penalties will be enforced on the sponsors and violators at the end of the amnesty.
He also urged persons whose sponsors refusing to hand them their passports for any reason to approach the immigration authorities.
''We will summon the sponsor to sort out the problem and find out prompt solution to it,''he added.
During the meeting, the top immigration officials took stock of the whole situation in regards to the amnesty.
They assessed the impact the amnesty will leave and discussed a series of recommendations on the punitive financial and administrative actions that can be taken against violators after the deadline of the amnesty.
Accompanied by senior officers, Al Khaili toured the Sharjah Naturalization and Residency Department to inspect services provided to amnesty-seekers. Source
