Ministry to Focus on Rational Use of Natural Resources
Minister for Water and Environment, Dr. Mohammed Saeed Al Kindi, today unveiled a three-year plan which will focus on water desalination, environmental consciousness and developing UAE Nationals? skills.
The ministry's plan mirrors the UAE Strategy, launched earlier this year by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai with the blessings of President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The ministry's strategy includes initiatives focusing on environmental security and the development of natural resources to promote sustainable development. The so, the ministry will increase its groundwater surveillance network to more than 183 wells, increase the number of observation networks by 35 per cent and complete the building of 11 freshwater ducts.
Dr. Al Kindi also outlined his ministry's plan to provide modern irrigation systems for about 1,000 farms and a national plan for the maintenance of dams and the development of existing fallows.
In water treatment and development, the ministry will seek to develop UAE Nationals' skills in addition to creating awareness of rational water use. The ministry has kept a target of a minimum of 70 per cent satisfaction rate in its customer service operations, a key component in the strategy.
The Ministry of Water and Environment is currently developing 270 initiatives in the following categories: environment (135), water (41), agricultural sector (52) and fish resources (42).
