Policy Health Cover Rules for Small Organizations
The Health Authority - Abu Dhabi (HA-AD) has announced that small employers with less than 11 employees must buy individual health insurance cover for each employee, as opposed to buying group health insurance.HA-AD also confirmed that the owners of such companies have to cover the employee as well as their families (1 wife + 3 children below 18 years).HA-AD stresses that these companies must obtain these health insurance policies from health insurance companies which are authorized by HA-AD to issue individual policies. These insurance companies include: The National Health Insurance Company - Daman, Arab Orient Insurance Company, Ras Al Khaima National Insurance Company, Alliance Insurance Company, Al Sagr National Insurance Company, Al Ain Al Ahlia, Al Buhaira, Abu Dhabi National Insurance Company, Emirates Insurance Company and, Oman Insurance Company.'Authorized insurance companies have the right to request medical reports for all customers applying for individual policies prior to their issuing, and the employer must submit these reports to the insurer. Employees earning less than AED 3,000 per month with housing or AED 4,000 without housing must be covered by Basic Product Policies, while employees earning AED 4,000 must be covered by Enhanced Product Policies,' confirmed Dr. Finn Goldner, Head of Health System Financing at HA-AD. HA-AD has begun inspections of employers, insurers and providers in order to monitor their compliance with the Health Insurance Law.
