New guidelines for dealing with ‘illegals’

Minister of Labour Dr Ali bin Abdullah Al Ka’abi yesterday approved the guidelines that will help companies and labourers to complete formalities to regularise the status of illegal workers in the country.
As per the guidelines, Dh5,000 will be charged per card from the employer for issuance or renewal of expired labour cards. This fees would be valid only for the three-month amnesty period that ends on September 2.
No fines would be imposed on companies in cases of sponsorship transfer and in cases of illegals leaving the country. This applies to all categories of illegals. The ministry will also waive fines for delay in renewal of labour cards or non-issuance of labour cards during the amnesty period.
For seeking new labour cards or renewals, the PROs of companies can apply online or by mail or visit the Department of Work Permits at the MoL.
For cancellation and deportation, illegal workers whose labour card and visa have expired should go to the Department of Work Permits and then to the Naturalisation and Residency Department. Those who possess expired labour cards but have a valid visa and wish to cancel and leave, they should go to the Inspection Department in the MoL. Further, workers who possess valid labour cards but want to cancel it and leave, should go to the Inspection Department at the MoL.
In such cases, all the formalities regarding the cancellation and deportation of the worker would be completed without referring to the current sponsor. Source
