Employers obliged to provide health insurance to expat females workers

Employers are obliged to provide health insurance cover to their expatriate female employees, even if they are not under their sponsorship, the General Health Authority in Abu Dhabi (GHA) has clarified.According to article (11) of the Insurance Law (Daman), employers are responsible for providing health insurance cover to their employees, even when they are not under the company's sponsorship.The company must ensure that its employees are covered in the Daman Health Insurance Programme, the GHA said here Monday.If the female expatriate worker is a widow, and therefore the sole bread-winner for her children, then she must be covered in the Daman programe along with three of her children below the age of 18, provided that a Sharia court certificate is produced to support the case. And if the husband is declared incapacitated by a medical panel, then she must be covered along with her husband and three children under the age of 18 years."We hope the companies will adhere to this provision", said Sultan Al Dhaheri'" Head of the Compensation Section at the GHA.
