Dubai parks to have more ghaf trees
In a bid to give a boost to the local vegetation in the emirate, Dubai Municipality is planning to grow ghaf trees, a variety best suitable for desert countries, in its new parks.
The officials of Public Parks and Horticulture department of the Municipality said the aim is to educate the people, especially youngsters, about the characteristics of the tree.
Ahmad Abdul Karim, Director of the Public Parks and Horticulture Department in the Municipality, said the new parks would be seeing a lot of ghaf trees.
“This particular variety grows in desert climates and has many unique characteristics। But many people don’t have any idea about the tree. The municipality initiative will help residents as well as tourists coming to the parks to learn more about the trees. The parks would have a touch of the Arab world as a result. We are always trying to make people understand our heritage and this plan would be of a big help,” he said. The Municipality has planted ghaf trees in the newly-opened parks at Nad Al Sheba and the Al Quoz. “The department is planning about 10 new parks in the coming two years. And these trees would be an inseparable part of these parks,” said another official. Source
