Chill is in the air

Dubai International Airport Meteorological Office forecaster Clive Stevens said windy and cloudy weather yesterday was the result of a shamal. It brought no rain and the north-westerly winds over the seas weren’t cold.

However, with the shamal weakening today, he said a cooler breeze inland from the mountains and the desert would see temperatures drop from tomorrow.

Those heading into the desert during the festive season should be prepared for temperatures as low as 12 degrees Celsius on Tuesday and Wednesday. Along the coast it was expected to be slightly warmer, around 14 or 15 degrees, and partly cloudy.

Stevens said there was little expectation for rain for the rest of the month and New Year’s Eve would not have inclement weather. The average rainfall in Dubai for December is 15mm with an average of about four rainy days.

“The rainfall is extremely variable in this area,” Stevens said. “The maximum rainfall in December is 130mm and once 23mm fell in 24 hours. The maximum rain days in December was 18 but there have also been Decembers with no rain days.”Source
