Zayed University opens three additional campuses

The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research opened three more campuses of Zayed University including one dedicated to the education of students intending to join the UAE armed forces, said a senior official.

"There has been a demand to open a new campus for men in Abu Dhabi and Dubai," said Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and President of Zayed University. He said that the ministry was working on plans for a budget and human resources to fulfil this need.

Shaikh Nahyan on Monday chaired a meeting of the Zayed University Council, which was attended by a number of high profile figures and covered the university's academic programmes, its majors for the year and all matters related to the university's academic objectives.

Among the topics discussed at the meeting was the opening of new campuses for male students. Although there is no fixed date on the launch of these campuses, Shaikh Nahyan said that new campuses including one in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sweihan are being considered.

Institutions
"The dedicated campus for a 'military division' will provide programmes and train students to become professionals in the sector," he said. "It is the responsibility of educational institutions to respond to the needs of the community," he added.

Shaikh Nahyan stressed the importance of periodically reviewing and assessing an institution's strategies.
"We are constantly reviewing our programmes and subjects within national and international contexts," he said. "This is an imperative procedure for every institution in order to both guarantee the quality of its programmes and to benefit the members of that institution."
He also honoured a number of public and private organisations for their roles in supporting the activities of the university. (GulfNews)
