Zayed Mosque to open for Eid Al Adha prayers

The President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, will offer Eid Al Adha prayers tomorrow at Shaikh Zayed Mosque, the third largest mosque in the world.
With a capacity of 40,000 worshippers, Shaikh Zayed Mosque shall be open for Eid Al Adha prayers on Wednesday, Engineer Khawla Al Sulaimani said.

The mosque is all set to receive worshippers, particularly in the three main prayer halls, which can accommodate 7,000 males and 1,000 females. The third hall, which is specified for daily prayers, is to accommodate 1,200 worshippers. The corridors and mosque courtyard can accommodate 30,000 worshippers, Al Sulaimani said.

Meanwhile, two ‘imams’ and ‘muezzins’ have been chosen for offering prayers at the mosque. The centre for unified ‘azaan’ is also to be transferred to the mosque, Dr. Mohammed Matter Al Kaabi, Director-General of the General Authority for Islamic Affairs and Auqaf (GAIAA), said.
Dr. Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, head of the GAIAA, has ordered that 10,000 copies of the Holy Quran be endowed to the mosque.

The mosque is an awesome Islamic milestone that helps spread Islamic culture, concepts, teachings, and sciences everywhere.
The mosque consists of 57 domes covering the outside yards, main and side entrances. This includes the largest dome in the world, with a height of 83 metres. The dome, which is 35.8 metres in diameter, weighs 1,000 tonnes.

All the domes of the mosque are decorated with white marble and verses from the Holy Quran. The interior decor was made of white gypsum.

A further astounding feature of the mosque is its grand carpet measuring 5,627 square metres, the largest in the world.

Some 1,200 weavers, 20 technicians, and 30 workers took part in making this large hand-made masterpiece.

The carpet, which weighs 47 tonnes - 35 tonnes of wool, and 12 tonnes of cotton - is unique in its designs and colours.

It has a total of 2,268,000 knots.
