Dubai Statistics Centre announces structure, launches corporate identity
Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Executive Council has issued a decision approving the organizational structure for Dubai Statistics Centre.
The decision comes as a step towards activating the Law No.23 of 2006 setting up Dubai Statistics Centre issued by His Highness the Ruler of Dubai. The organizational structure has been designed based on studies conducted on the best international statistical practices.

The organizational structure, which encompasses the requirements of various sectors in the Emirate of Dubai for the coming phases, ensures flexibility and streamlines the operations and procedures between different organizational units in the Centre.
According to the organizational structure there will be four departments in the Centre. They are Economic Statistics Department, Population and Social Statistics Department, Information Technology Department and Corporate Excellence and Support Department.
The tasks of Economic Statistics Department include National Account and inflation index, issuing statistics and indexes on economic and financial sector, whether providing data by field or coordinating with the concerned bodies.
The tasks of Population and Social Statistics Department include conducting population and housing census and special family, social and demographic surveys, in addition to issuing statistics and indexes on demographic and social sectors, whether by implementing census and field surveys or coordinating with the concerned bodies.
The duties of information Technology Department include all technical tasks of preserving and managing database, operating and supporting the technical systems and networks, providing advanced technical solutions that contributes to easing the gathering and issuing of statistical data as per appropriate time schedules.
The tasks of Corporate Excellence and Support Department include managing strategic planning operations, measuring organizational performance, developing operations and applying advanced quality and organizational excellence systems, planning the management and development of human resources, providing administrative services, managing financial resources, purchasing process for the Centre, in addition to providing corporate communications services, customer care, statistical publication ,awareness and interaction with all categories of the society.
The Dubai Statistics Centre has also launched its official logo, which was approved by the Governing Body of the Centre led by His Excellency Essa Kazim. As a culmination of this establishment procedure, the Centre is currently busy finalizing its strategy, which will support firstly the implementation of Dubai Strategic Plan with various topics and meet the statistical requirements of all sectors.
Arif Al Mehairi, CEO of Dubai Statistics Centre said the plan will focus on the vision, objectives and ambitious plans to cover the fast paced economic and demographic growth in the emirate and also to achieve a good name for the Centre among the statistics centres in the region.
He said the plan will cover the economic, demographic and social sectors and provide data as per the approved international statistical standards by implementing census and statistical surveys and providing registered data.
Al Mehairi added that building and enhancing excellent strategic partnership with public and private sector establishments will be another strategic focus of the Centre as statistical data and information will be of importance to these establishments to accomplish sound plans and take proper decisions based on scientific facts ensuring its soundness and effectiveness. In addition, these establishments are considered to be sources for registered statistical data, which is the second axis for statistical work as the first axis is the field statistics.
He said that in addition to the statistical support for implementing Dubai Strategic Plan and building and establishing strategic partnerships, the strategy of the Centre will also focus on providing excellent services to all categories of customers inside and outside the country such as investors, researchers, academicians and all other concerned people in the field of statistics, especially the statistics related to the emirate of Dubai.
The Governing Body of the Centre has issued a decision appointing Tariq Yousuf Al Janahi as the Director of Corporate Excellence & Support Department. The decision comes as a step towards appointing capable nationals in leadership positions.
Janahi has worked as auditor with the Salary Department of the Ministry of Finance and Industry and later transferred to the Quality Certificate Licensing Unit in the Ministry and worked as Quality and Environment Systems Auditor. After that he joined the team for developing organizational performance in government establishments and worked in applying Quality and Environment Management System in government establishments.
Later he joined Dubai Municipality as the Head of Quality and Support Unit in the Statistics Centre. He has been member of many committees and working groups, which have worked at the emirate level as well as the UAE level.
Janahi has an EMCP certificate in Executive Management from Yale University, USA and a Bachelors' Degree in Business Administration with specialization in Accounting from the Ajman University of Science and Technology. He is also a British Quality Foundation licensed assessor for European Excellence standards, approved as a criterion for Dubai Government Excellence Award. (WAM)
