New safety regulations will be announced in the UAE this week to improve site safety for workers. It is believed that the UAE government will announce a federal labour law and a Dubai Municipality code of practice today, 25 February.The move follows two accidents last month that according to official records killed three people and injured 39.
An official from Dubai Municipality confirmed that a new law is to be announced which will improve safety as well as accommodation facilities for workers.
Last year, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, ruler of Dubai and prime minister of the UAE, ordered the Ministry of Labour to increase its force of health and safety inspectors in order to curb on-site H&S violations. Source
