Education sector workers get additional housing allowance

The Executive Council of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi has approved a financial increase in the additional housing allowance allocated for all UAE nationals and expat staff working in the sector of education in the Abu Dhabi, Al-Ain and Western Education Zones.

Sources at the ministry told this reporter that the Minister of Education Dr Hanif Hassan Ali is currently studying the report provided by the committee that was tasked with evaluating the practices adopted by private schools to increase the fees.

"The committee affirmed that the increase percentages were not fixed and there were different levels of increases in the emirates. For instance, in Dubai the Knowledge and Human Development Authority has fixed the increase at 16 per cent every three years. However, in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, the Abu Dhabi Education Zone (ADEZ) abides by the law to implement an increase of 20 per cent every three years," the sources said.

Meanwhile, the sources added that the new law to streamline private education in the country would see the light of the day next week after Cabinet's endorsement.
