Marvel to build Dubai Super Heros theme park

Marvel Entertainment, the US-based creator of such globally renowned comic book characters as Spider Man, will build the world's first Super Heros theme park in Dubai, the local developer said on Saturday.

Tatweer, the government-owned company behind the Dubailand leisure and tourism development, said the conceptual master plan of the 4.5 million square feet (418,063 square meters) theme park has been finalised.

The theme park, featuring characters like Iron Man, the Fantastic Four and Hulk, is expected to welcome visitors in 2012, a statement said.

"The launch of the Marvel Super Heroes theme park in Dubai will mark our entry into a region that promises tremendous growth potential for our brands," David Maisel, executive vice president of Marvel Entertainment, was quoted as saying.

Dubailand will also include theme parks built in conjunction with DreamWorks and Universal Studios, as well as sports, horse racing and retail facilities. AFP
