Dubai International Rehabilitation Forum and Exhibition
Minister of Social Affairs HE Mariam Al Roumi opened Monday Dubai International Rehabilitation Forum and Exhibition - (Rehab 2008) at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre being held under the patronage of H.H Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Health Authority.
In her opening address, the minister outlined efforts made by the UAE provide care and services to persons with disabilities.
''The UAE signing of the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities is a living evidence of the government strategic policies towards disable persons,''she affirmed.
She said that the UAE also issued federal law no 29 of 2006 on rights of persons with special needs.
Rehab Dubai is the only platform in the Middle East that will bring together investors, manufacturers, suppliers and products and services providers and consumers under one roof.
Since its inception, Rehab Dubai has raised the profile of disability, awareness and rehabilitation issues in the UAE and in the Middle East region.
With over 10 million severely disabled people among the Arab population, the market for Arab rehabilitation products, spurred by a series of rehabilitation projects undertaken by the governments in the region estimated at $7bn annually, organisers said.
Rehab 2008 will give manufacturers, suppliers, traders and distributors of rehabilitation equipment the opportunity to reach new markets in a short period of time through exhibiting and meeting Government officials, purchasing officers, decision makers and representatives of regional rehabilitation hospitals, clinics, centres and institutions.
Rehab will display the latest rehabilitation products and services from different parts of the world. (WAM)
