In implementation of the directives of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) allocated Dhs43.910m, being the proceeds of the 52nd Distinguished Vehicle Numbers Auction (which amounted to Dh8.910 million), along with Dhs35m as revenues of Toll Gate System (Salik) for six weeks, to Dubai Cares campaign.
This comes as part of RTA's plan to promote & contribute to the success of 'Dubai Cares', and in manifestation of its commitment to support various human & social activities in the UAE.
The distinguished number F196 topped the list of numbers offered in the auction, which was held yesterday in Jumeirah Beach Hotel in Dubai as part of distinguished numbers auction series held by RTA, and was sold for Dh300.000.
Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board & Executive Director of the RTA, commented on the above by saying: "The initiative of the RTA to allocate the proceeds of the 52nd Distinguished Vehicle Numbers Auction along with the revenues of the Toll Gates System (Salik) to Dubai Cares, is in response to the directives of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Executive Council, to support Dubai Cares campaign triggered by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President & Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and is views as part of a series of initiatives made by the RTA in support of the campaign." Al Tayer referred to the importance of supporting Dubai Cares initiative, which carries noble objectives in lending support to the poor communities and assisting them to overcome problems associated with poverty.
"This could be materialized through raising funds to provide essential ingredients of basic education and funding the educational projects to educate around one million children in the world poorest regions. This reflects the sharp and far vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, as education is considered is the launching pad for all communities. Education is the tool capable of bringing up positive changes in the development path of the targeted countries through rescuing millions of children from the menace of disease, ignorance and poverty. Therefore this initiative was met with great response from community & businesses entities in the UAE, particularly noting that statistics reveal that there are more than 800 illiterate children and 120 million deprived children all over the world," tated Al Tayer.
He added that RTA is always keen to make effective participation in bringing success to these initiatives and social activities, as they have considerable impact on shaping the vital role played by the RTA in various human and community events; a matter which undoubtedly reflects the role of the RTA as a leading government establishment within the community.
Through taking part in Dubai Cares campaign, RTA intends to reinforce the joint relationships with all public & service-providing authorities / entities in the emirate of Dubai through highlighting such participation in the website of the RTA. Moreover, RTA is also sending SMS and showcasing the campaign in Variable Message Signs (VMS) of the RTA located at various roads and locations in Dubai. Source
