296 families to get UAE citizenship
Director of the Preventive Security Department at the Ministry of Interior and head of the joint committee for studying cases of those who do not bear credentials, Brigadier Abdul Aziz Maktoum Al Sherifi, revealed that the committee has completed all the procedures to award the first batch, UAE citizenship as per conditions in the decision issued by President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
According to the conditions, an applicant must be a permanent resident since the inception of UAE federation in Dec., 2nd1971 and should not conceal any information or documents about his former nationality. He should have good conduct and not convicted in any case related to breach of honesty and trust.
"The committee has finished the issuance procedures of 1294 new passports to 296 families who do not hold documents and the passports will be awarded to them soon", he added.
Sherifi noted that the move is in line with kind gesture of President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and follow up by Vice-President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to assess cases of those without UAE citizenship and do not hold any credentials.
He revealed that cases of forgery and manipulation were detected as some applicants attempted to hide their original nationalities in order to get the UAE citizenship. Some were found as infiltrators into the country, though they claimed to have resided in the country for years through forgery means.
"Work is afoot to complete the procedures of naturalisation of the second batch before the end of this year as per instructions of Sheikh Khalifa and follow up of the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Presidential Affairs", Sherifi said.
He called on those who do not bear any credentials to rectify their status, or leave the country; otherwise they will be dealt with as violators of the entry law. Source
