The New RTA projects
His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, was briefed about a number of projects being carried out by Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai which include ‘Unified Electronic Payment Cards’, bridges of the Trade Centre, Dubai Metro, Garhoud Bridge and expansions of Al Maktoum Bridge. Shaikh Mohammed was briefed by Eng. Matar Al Tayer, Chairman and Executive Director of RTA. Al Tayer said the project of the Unified Electronic Payment Cards — the first of its kind in the Middle East — is expected to start functioning in 2008. It includes electronic payment for all means of local transport and public parkings.
The cost of the Trade Centre bridges project is estimated at Dh690 million, he said adding that the 40 red lines and 10 green lines of the Metro project have been completed. Al Garhoud Bridge project includes two new bridges of seven lanes on either side. Al Tayer also threw light on the new expansion of Al Maktoum Bridge which will include three lanes which are expected to be opened in October. Source
