World's largest carpet set for UAE

Iran has unveiled what it claims to be the world’s largest handwoven carpet, worth $5.8 million and larger than a football pitch.The carpet was crafted over 18 months by 1200 weavers in three villages in north east Iran, according to Jalaleddin Bassam, head of the country’s state carpet company.Destined for an Abu Dhabi mosque, it is fashioned from nine pieces which will be flown to the emirate in two separate planes and stitched together to cover the central prayer area.
It is made up of 2.2 billion knots from wool from the southern Iranian town of Sirjan and from New Zealand in 25 colours using 20 natural dyes, Bassam said.Four teams of people will be sent to the UAE for the fitting and cleaning of the carpet, he added. Source
