Project to build UAE National Cultural Encyclopedia launched

The UAE Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development and du, UAE's second telecom operator, launched Wednesday a new project to build the UAE National Cultural Encyclopedia.An agreement signed today by Abdul Rahman Mohammed Al Owais, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development and Osman Sultan, CEO of du, appoints du as the exclusive sponsor of the new encyclopedia for three years.Underscoring the project, Al Owais said "the cultural project stems from the Ministry's efforts to identify national creative individuals to further promote the nation's heritage according to the prudent leadership's vision."The Encyclopedia, he added, "will assemble and document data on UAE nationals' creative cultural productions. It will also enable the Ministry to develop a bright image for the country in the West and other Arab countries. During a press briefing today in Dubai, du inaugurated the encyclopedia's website. The electronic site, to be officially open to receive submissions at a later stage, will be the core of a comprehensive cultural database on national scholars, authors, creative productions, foundations, libraries, films and photographs.Calling upon all members of the cultural circles to support the national project through submitting and documenting their works, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development said it will be the cultural and intellectual record book of the UAE and the core of the forthcoming UAE national library."The new encyclopedia is currently the most important cultural event and it is planned to meet the need to document the UAE cultural heritage and make it available to scholars and researchers worldwide", stressed head of the project team.The project team has already started assembling and documenting relevant data.
