UAE, Vatican establish diplomatic relations
The UAE and the Vatican inked here on Wednesday a joint communique on the establishment of diplomatic ties at ambassadorial level, with effect from 30th May.
The statement, which was signed by Abdul Aziz Nasser Al Shamsi, UAE's Permanent Representative at the UN, and Archbishop Celestino Migliore, Vatican's permanent observer at the UN, had been deposited at the UN in both Arabic and English.
The statement cited the two countries' deep desire to cement mutual friendship and international cooperation via diplomatic relations at ambassador level from the UAE side and Papal diplomatic mission from the Vatican side, in accordance with the Vienna Accord of 18th April 1961.
After the signing ceremony, Al Shamsi discussed with Archbishop Celestino Migliore mutual ties that can be developed between the two sides. Source
