620 new luxury buses for Dubai
Dubai Roads and Transport Authority has signed a contract of about Dh1.9 billion to buy 620 luxury buses to run on intra-city and inter-city routes, says an official. Public transport buses will cover 95 per cent of Dubai city with a total of 160 routes by 2010, said a senior official at the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
The current six per cent public bus use will increase to 30 per cent by adding more buses to the existing fleet and introducing new routes. The newly planned bus stops will be air conditioned. With the new luxury buses, dedicated bus lanes and an increased number of routes the number of bus users will increase as people will be able to save time and money.
