'Largest Islamic bank' builds team

The man in charge of recruitment for Noor Islamic Bank has outlined the challenges he faces in creating a workforce for what aims to be the largest Islamic bank in the world.Noor Islamic Bank, which is backed by Dubai Holding, begins operations in January 2008 and is currently recruiting, with a strong emphasis on finding UAE talent.Abdulrahman Fekri, head of human resources at Noor Islamic Bank, said: "We will have 400-plus people on our opening day. Our manpower will be 20 to 30% local recruits at first.
"Whenever a new bank comes out there are a lot of opportunities. We are trying to give priority to UAE nationals."He said that the bank was working with universities in the UAE to come up with graduate recruitment schemes.Fekri also gave details of the bank's global expansion plans. He said: "Our objective is to be the biggest Islamic bank in the world - more international than local."We are looking to tackle the overseas market in mid-2008, including Asia, Europe and Africa."The bank is a project from Dubai Investment Group, which is part of Dubai Holding. It will be backed by capital of US$1 bn when it begins operations in January 2008. Source
