Dubai tops in Hamdan awards for excellence in education
The Dubai Educational Zone (DEZ) has bagged the maximum number of prizes offered by the Shaikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Awards for Distinguished Academic Performance.
The ninth edition of the Awards saw DEZ bagging 30 prizes. The Abu Dhabi Educational Zone ranked second with 25 prizes while the Sharjah Educational Zone received 14 prizes. The Educational Zones in Al Ain, Ras Al Khaimah, Ajman and Fujairah won 13, 11, 8 and 4 titles respectively. The Western Region and Umm Al Quawain won three prizes each.
Elaborating on local and Gulf participation, Dr Khalifa Al Suweidi, Chairman of the jury committees, said winners represented 22 per cent of 521 entries received by the Award Secretariat General.
The private sector's participation, he noted, was not up to the mark in the current edition. The list of winners in this category included Bilal Ahmed (Ajman Private School), Heba Waleed Mahmoud (Al Ittihad School-Mumzar), Mariam Yusouf Abdullah (Dubai School), Maria Besount (Al Ain Preparatory School), Amal Mohammed Qasim (Haditha School), Say Shati (Althia School), Ayuson Maniyam (Indian Secondary School), Ahmed Juma (Ittihad School), Sara Musa Hamouda (Ahlia School), Saniya Diya (Abu Dhabi Indian School), Ala Hussam Abdul Aziz (Manar Al Islam School), Yahya Wasef (Sharouq School), Akra Francis (Abu Dhabi Indian School), Abdul Rahman Suhail (Andalus Academy), Arab Musa (Ahliya School), Isra Tareq (Dubai International School), Sara Abdul Rahman (Scientific Innovation School), Ahmed Abdul Fatah (Manara School) and Omar Abdulla Amro (Rosary School). The winers will receive the awards during a ceremony that will be held at the Dubai Word Trade Centre on 9 April.
