Dubai Courts’ Civil Section sees 18.6% rise in cases
DUBAI The Dubai Courts’ Civil Section witnessed a 18.6 per cent increase in civil and trade cases in the month of January and February this year. The department handled 743 cases in these two months.Last year, civil section had heard 557 civil and trade cases in the same months. Of the 743 cases this year, 307 were concerning commerce, 271 pertaining to employees and 165 regarding civil matters. Mohammed Al Madani, Head of Civil Section in Dubai Court, said, “We witnessed this spurt due to growing trade and commerce and real estate business in this Emirate. The cases involving check bounce, rights and breach of agreements in various sectors between individuals and trading firms are increasing by leaps and bounds.”In 2006, the Civil Section attended to 4,393 cases. The Labour Court heard 1,008 labour cases in 2006, of which 813 were individual and 195 were group cases. Source
