Dubai airport to close for 12 hours
A Bangladesh Airlines plane has overshot the runway at Dubai airport, forcing its closure for twelve hours from 6.30am this morning.  All 236 passengers on board are safe but there are 14 minor injuries, according to a spokesman for Dubai International Airport (DXB)."Bangladesh Airlines flight BG006 from Dubai to Dhaka had technical difficulties and failed to take off.  All 236 passengers on board are safe and were evacuated immediately," a spokesman told ArabianBusiness.com.
"There were 14 minor injuries."The spokesman said that the airport would be closed for "at least eight hours". Other reports state that it could be closed for 12 hours in total.Incoming planes are being diverted to nearby airports but no further details are currently available.The airport will issue a statement shortly.A Bangladesh Airlines spokesman confirmed that a Dubai-Dhaka flight had experienced technical difficulties."There was a serious problem with the nose wheel. You can call it a technical fault. [The incident occured at] around 8am Dhaka time," the spokesman told ArabianBusiness.com."So far there are no casualties. The minor injuries we are yet to learn [about]."The spokesman said that there were 231 people on board - not 238 - including 13 airline employees.A plane scheduled to leave Dhaka at 9.30pm this evening would collect the passengers stranded at DXB. Its capacity would allow it to take "most of the passengers" back to Dhaka, said the spokesman. Source
