Abu Dhabi Airport receives 12 diverted flights
Abu Dhabi International Airport today received 12 Dubai-bound international flights, following the closure of Dubai's airport for eight hours.According to Col. Ahmed Mohsen Al Hamid, Deputy Director of Airports and Entry Points Security Police, the Dubai-bound flights - including 7 by Emirates airline and 5 by other international carriers - were diverted to Abu Dhabi International Airport following the closure of Dubai airport.The airport was closed when a Bangladeshi airliner (Airbus 310) skidded off the runway in the early hours of Monday."The all arrival procedures- including visa and custom clearance and baggage reclaim were completed instantly without delay. The airport is prepared for such emergencies and could received diverted flights from all airports across the UAE", said Col. Al Hamid.Bangladesh's Biman Airlines Flight 006 was taking off at 6:30 a.m. Monday en-route to Dhaka when a 'small incident' occurred that caused the takeoff to be aborted and the plane halted on the runway, said an earlier a statement by the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).The CAA stated that only 14 of the 236 passengers on board were slightly injured.
