Arab Parliamentary Union backs UAE right to Islands
The Council of Arab Parliamentary Union has reaffirmed the UAE's sovereignty rights over of Greater and Lesser Tunb and Abu Musa Islands, including their territorial waters, air space, economic zone, and continental rift.
The Council, which wound up two days of deliberations here, deplored the lack of positive outcome from contacts made with the Islamic republic of Iran, with the aim of reaching a settlement of the three islands.
The final communique? called for pursuit of all peaceful means to restore the UAE's rights. The Council called on Iran to respond to the call of the UAE and the international community for resolving the dispute through direct negotiations or referring it to the International Court of Justice.
The Council welcomed the recent parliamentary elections in the UAE as a quality landmark in the country's political experience.
