Dubai Municipality and Dubai Electricity and Water Authority will join forces in a ground-breaking project to generate energy from waste.
A memorandum of Understanding in this respect was signed to explore the possibility of producing energy from waste to partially offset the shortage in gas resources. The move will also cut the projected increasing costs of power generation in the next years.
Under the MoU, the two parties will forge a joint taskforce to conduct feasibility studies on the best methods to convert waste into energy and requirements of the project including waste management system.
Officials of the civic body and DEWA affirmed that the two signatories would step up joint cooperation to make the initiative feasible environmentally, technologically and economically. (WAM)
