German vehicle and engineering group MAN is to supply Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority with 401 buses in a $441m deal, Gulf News reports.Deliveries of the Neoplan low-floor city buses will begin in February 2008, with a schedule of 31 buses per month, according to MAN Middle East general manager Alexander Smola.The agreement includes a technical services contract valued at Dh548m which includes the repair, maintenance and after-sales services for five years.
MAN opened a regional office in Dubai yesterday and will base 110 technical personnel in the city, according to Gulf News. It is hoping for a further contract for 55 buses and will sell its ticketing system for existing buses. "We are discussing putting our ticketing systems on 400 vehicles," Smola said.According to Smola, discussions are also underway to supply buses to Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Abu Dhabi. "We are potentially looking at orders for 2,500 buses within 18 months" he said. Source
