Committees for consumer-related disputes

Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of Economy, issued Sunday a resolution creating across-the Emirates panels for the settlement of consumer-related disputes.In each respective emirate, the Reconciliation Committee for the Settlement of Consumer-Related Disputes is comprised of three members representing the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Economic Development Department and the Municipality.The resolution names the director of the Economy Ministry's Consumers Protection Department as head of these panels with Butti Ahmed bin Khadem of the Consumers Protection Society as member in all of the committees.The committees, as set out in the new legislation, will look into and settle disputes and complaints referred to them by the Ministry or respective local authorities concerned.
