The 24-hour toll system due to be introduced on two of Dubai’s busiest roads in July may not operate around the clock permanently.Despite welcoming the system as a move to cut congestion in the emirate, motorists reacted angrily to the news it would operate at all hours of the day and night saying it offered no incentive to wait until non-peak times to make non-essential journeys. However, this weekend a spokesperson for the Roads and Transport Authority told 7DAYS the 24-hour on Sheikh Zayed Road and Garhoud Bridge were only part of the first phase of the system and the hours could be reduced later if monitoring reveals it necessary.
