The consumer interests on the 2nd Gulf Consumer Protection Day

The Compliance Division at the Department of Economic Development (DED) will highlight consumer interests through its participation in the activities of the 2nd Gulf Consumer Protection Day.
Organized by the UAE Ministry of Economy in association with concerned ministries, government departments and other institutions that deal with consumers, the 2nd Gulf Consumer Protection Day will be celebrated over two weeks from March 1 to 15, the World Consumer Rights Day. DED's participation is part of its ongoing efforts to improve consumer awareness, eliminate fake goods and ensure high quality standards for products and services in the UAE.
The DED has set up posters, stand-alone banners and brochures in English and Arabic at major shopping malls including Deira City Center, Mercato Shopping Mall, Mall of the Emirates and BurJuman Centre on the consumer awareness campaign. These brochures provide customers and visitors valuable advice against any exploitation and fraud to ensure safe transactions of goods and services.
The Compliance Division carries out organized and random inspection campaigns in Dubai, in addition to undertaking inspections based on complaints registered by the owners of trademarks or their representatives. Once a complaint is registered by the trademark owner of the brand or product or by the general public, the DED officials will launch an investigation to ascertain the extent of fraud. According to the law, the Department cannot take action until a complaint has been registered by the original owner of the brand or product.
