Abu Dhabi Business Forum to open today

More than 1,000 business and financial experts from around the world will attend the two-day Abu Dhabi Business Forum which opens today under the Patronage of General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, at the Emirates Palace.
The delegates will include ministers from the GCC countries and senior officials from many other countries.
The forum is organised by the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry in association with the Department of Planning and Economy and the Al Iqtisaad Wal Amal Group.
Organised in the context of the large-scale economic development programme the emirate of Abu Dhabi has undertaken, the ADCCI is organising this forum to discuss the opportunities and challenges generated by this massive development programme.
Keynote address
The keynote address will dwell on the Economic Vision of Abu Dhabi, which will be followed by two days of panel discussions on various topics linked to the economic development programmes, their requirements and challenges that could be faced during the course of programme implementation.
Government restructuring initiative, which is expected to spur and streamline economic development by improving transparency, will be one of the main topics of discussion. This discussion will focus on the role of the government in the future economy and the role of the private sector as the main driver of economic development.
The discussion on privatisation strategy and investment opportunities will shed light on the opportunities and the role of foreign capital in the econ-omic development of Abu Dhabi.
The forum will also discuss the government plans on upgrading the existing infrastructure in the emirate.
Investment requirements for increasing the oil and gas production and refining capacities will be another focus of the panel discussions.
Major economic expansion programmes planned in future will include the development of basic industries like petrochemicals, aluminium, steel and other industries.

With this background, the forum will also look into the scope of expanding the petrochemical industry, aluminium and steel production initiatives and creation of new industrial zones.
